Hostel

History

In the month of November 1890, the year in which the school was established, the girl’s hostel was set up on the upper floor of 13, Cornwallis Street, where the school building was situated.

The hostel started with mere 6 boarders under the supervision of Hemlata Bhattacharya, the daughter of Shibnath Shastri. Later Labanyaprabha Basu, the sister of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Basu, became the in-charge of the hostel. Both the school and the hostel were supervised by the same managing committee. During the earthquake in 1897, the 13, Cornwallis Street building was severely damaged and the school, along with the hostel, was shifted to 56, Mirzapur Street building. Later in 1906, both the school and the hostel were shifted to the Upper Circular Road building.  After several shifts, the school and hostel facilities are currently located at A.P.C. Road, Kolkata.
